New Skincare Line Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty Is The Secret To Glowing Skin

Dr. Whitney Bowe has always been ahead of her time. Nowadays it’s no secret you are what you eat—when it comes to your skin, at least. But that hasn’t always been common wisdom. When she was in medical school, Dr. Bowe challenged the status quo—and her professors—by going against what she had learned in medical school. Back then, it was believed that diet didn’t have any effect on the skin. But Dr. Bowe knew that was wrong—and she proved it with a groundbreaking paper published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2010. Initially it was controversial, but her research put her on the global stage and led to textbooks and guidelines eventually being revised, as well as an award from the American Academy of Dermatology.

Since then, Dr. Bowe has been making plenty of strides in dermatology, both as an award-winning practicing board-certified dermatologist and a published research scientist. That’s what makes her one of the most in-demand experts in her field in the country. “I’ve published over 40 peer-reviewed scientific studies and I’ve lectured internationally, presenting my research at scientific conferences around the world,” Dr. Bowe says. “When I combined that clinical experience of treating thousands of patients for over a decade, with my background as a research scientist, it became clear to me that we needed to completely rethink the way that we’re approaching skincare. When you apply products directly on the skin, even if those are the best products and you’re using them in the most thoughtful and strategic ways possible, you inevitably will hit a plateau in terms of the results that you can achieve in your skin. In order to push through that ceiling, you have to think about the skin three-dimensionally; you have to treat the skin from the inside out and the outside.”

Enter Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty, launching today. She funneled all that knowledge into her own skincare line so everyone can get #ThatBoweGlow. Known as “The 3D Derm,” Dr. Bowe was an early champion of the skin-gut-mind connection, creating a three-dimensional approach to skincare by treating skin from the outside and inside. That’s why Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty works to balance the gut microbiome, fuel the brain and nourish skin.

The line encompasses two products that are designed to work synergistically, the Bowe Glow Microbiome Nourishing Cream and the Bowe Growe Pomegranate Microbiome Elixir. “If you’re stopping with the outside in approach, you’re missing an essential layer to your skincare routine,” Dr. Bowe says. “That was at the core of the brand. This is something I’ve been researching and lecturing on for over a decade. The products are different from anything that’s on the market today because I think about the skin-gut-mind connection when I’m formulating.”

It took 17 versions and two years of development to land on the Bowe Glow Microbiome Nourishing Cream. More than a moisturizer, it deeply hydrates, soothes and nourishes skin with a blend of prebiotics, postbiotics, squalane, ceramides and hyaluronic acid. It balances the skin microbiome and strengthens the skin barrier while leaving behind a gorgeous glow. Since it’s lightweight, it instantly sinks into skin. “A silky, luxurious day and night moisturizer, it dives into the skin and layers beautifully with your skincare and under makeup as well,” Dr. Bowe says. “It’s nourishing and hydrating enough to use it as a standalone moisturizer at night, too.”

It only takes one or two droppers of the Bowe Growe Pomegranate Microbiome Elixir a day into your water or beverage of choice (hello, La Croix!) to see healthier, glowier skin, courtesy of its role in nourishing the gut microbiome. The water-enhancing skincare drops are all about polyphenols, courtesy of pomegranate, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, cranberry and concord grape, with lemon juice, coconut water and monk fruit rounding out the mix. The subtle flavor of pomegranate, lemon and berry is a fun way to spice up your H20 (including seltzer) while upping your intake of plant-powered bionutrients.

Since Dr. Bowe is all about science, it’s no surprise that clinical testing is a cornerstone of the line, ensuring the products’ efficacy and building on their promise of skincare that works. Each product goes through rigorous third-party testing. “What’s very unique about Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty is the way we do our testing,” she says. “We focus on the final formulation, while most focus on individual ingredient data, meaning that when you look at a lot of claims that are made, even on the most scientific and clinical brands, they’ll say it repairs the skin barrier or improves hydration in the skin. But when you actually read the fine print, it’s based on one ingredient in the formulation, not the final formulation. You can’t extrapolate what you’re getting from one ingredient. I made a vow that every time I launch a beauty product I was going to clinically test it in the final formulation. I deeply explored every ingredient, but the final formulation matters more.”

The brand also made sure to use both subjective and objective analyses, so that all claims are backed up by objective and quantifiable measurements in skin improvement. “Our testing protocols are some of the most advanced in the skincare industry and I’m really proud of that,” Dr. Bowe adds. Additionally, in the clinical trials, 30% of the subjects had sensitive skin to ensure that the line was safe for those with delicate complexions.

Putting the planet first is another key element of the brand. The Bowe Glow Microbiome Nourishing Cream is refillable—all you have to do is twist the top off and pop out the inner tube. Ensuring that each product is as healthy for your skin as it is for Mother Earth, the entire line exceeds the EU’s clean standards and is pH-balanced, fragrance-free, cruelty-free and made with sustainably sourced ingredients. “The packaging is high-performance and sustainable,” Dr. Bowe says. “I want to protect the potency and stability of the formula up until the very last drop, so it’s opaque, meaning no light can get through. And it’s airless, meaning no oxygen can get in. And it’s refillable. Refills are better for the planet and your wallet.”

Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty will exclusively be available on their website, which Dr. Bowe will also use as an educational platform. “I have always been all about transparency and empowering through education,” she says. One section will be an ingredient glossary with an explainer of every single one they use, with links to medical resources. Additionally, there will be a series called “Derm Scribbles” that will emulate having conversations with a good friend who just happens to be a very knowledgeable dermatologist. “I’m going to be pulling back the curtains and talking openly and honestly about different things within the beauty industry that I think haven’t really been discussed that people are curious about and giving an insider view into that,” Dr. Bowe says.

Eventually, Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty will expand to include other products, but each addition will be deliberate. “I’ve never advocated a 12-step skincare routine—I believe in a simple, very, very efficacious routine,” Dr. Bowe says. “Every time that we launch a product, there’s a guarantee that there’s incredible scientific integrity behind it, that the products are truly groundbreaking and they’re cohesive in the skin goal you’re looking to address. They will really tap into that inside and outside, holistic and three-dimensional way of driving results, and I’m going to crush the science.”
