The Benefit of Stainless Steel Jewellery and Chain Accessories

Are you tired of polishing and re-polishing your jewellery? Does your jewellery spend most of its time in the box for the fear of loss, damage or the like? Maybe you need to adopt a new type of jewellery. Make way for stainless steel jewellery and chain accessories. If you are thinking that jewellery steel chain & wire rope used in the boats are one and the same then of course you are wrong. Yes, they are both stainless steel, but the kind of steel used for jewellery is quite different from the industrial steels. If you want sturdy, inexpensive jewellery that lasts, steel can be an ideal choice. If you are still not convinced, the following information may help.

• Untarnished Jewellery – Stainless Steel is an alloy that has iron that provides its strength as well as carbon, chromium and traces of other metals. Despite the fact that iron is a major component of steel, how is it that stainless steel does not stain? That is because the chromium present in the alloy forms a thin layer of chromium oxide on the surface. This coating prevents the air from coming in contact with the iron component of the alloy thus dissuading the formation of iron oxide or rust. This phenomenon is called passivation and it also protects the steel from general staining and discoloration.

• Surgical Grade Steel – Many might be wary of wearing jewellery or even jewellery chain accessories made of the same material that is used to create industrial steel chain & wire rope. Many might not be aware that there are various grades of steel. The 302L and 304L are some industrial grade stainless steels that are hardy but unsuitable for jewellery. On the other hand, there are 316L, 316 VLM and 317L that are used for making jewellery. All these types of steels have lower levels of nickel that make them ideal for jewellery. The 316VLM version is recommended for new piercings as it is developed in vacuum, making it smoother and cleaner. Later, they can wear the 316L versions, also called surgical grade steel. Even people with nickel allergy might get away with wearing jewellery made with 316L, 316VLM or 317L due to their low nickel content.

• Different Strokes – Although steel cannot be molded easily due to its hard nature, it does not mean that there is no variety. Stainless steel can be tainted in a number of colors and can even be plated with gold or silver. Moreover, if you fancy etching some designs on the surface, you can rest assured those designs will last a lifetime. Just make sure that when you are making the stainless jewellery, you get the measurements absolutely right. And in case of chains and bracelets, make sure the jewellery chain accessories are all in good working order. Flimsy clasps are the first sign of poor quality jewellery.

• Men’s Jewellery – Men are not so careful with their jewellery, and they like chunky jewellery. Both these criteria are fulfilled by stainless steel. You can get the strength of industrial steel chain & rope wire with the beauty of jewellery.

This new trend of steel jewellery is catching on fast thanks to the durability, longevity and the affordability of steel. Now your wedding bands can be as timeless as your love.
